What got you into these cars and how old were you?
I got into these cars when I was 18 because my girlfriend (at the time) owned one and I spent years modifying it.
What’s the story behind your Eclipse GSX?
As most of us do, I was checking Craigslist one day because you never know what might show up. I stumbled upon a 1999 Mitsubishi GSX in Northstar White. It happened to be just a few miles from my house. The owner took it as a partial trade for an R32 Skyline that he had. He couldn’t get it to pass emissions and didn’t know much about it, so he put it up for sale. I bought it, took on the many week long challenge of getting it to pass emissions (19 tries) and it finally passed. In the process, spun a rod bearing though. That is where the build began…
What keeps you interested in the DSM life?
I stay into these cars because I appreciate the uniqueness, the DSM community and how easy they are to work on.
What was the biggest hurdle you had to cross?
My biggest hurdle was putting a motor in the car after not having worked on one in around 10 years.
What is the one thing you are most proud of about your DSM?
I am most proud of breaking an axle during the last qualifying round at the 2018 DSM Shootout and, with the help of Deeter (sp?) of Jack’s Transmissions, we were able to get it back running before the first round of eliminations.
Is there anything you would do differently or wish you would’ve done?
I’m pretty happy with how the build is going!
Something about your car/build/you that’s totally unique and fun and different?
I feel like most of it is pretty normal DSM stuff, but I do get a lot of questions about my Cadillac CTS V brakes. I also get multiple questions about my tail lights, and I have NO idea where they are from, but people really like them.
What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy photography and videography, as well as, fly fishing and traveling.
What’s the best advice you’d offer someone just starting out?
Find Jafro’s videos on YouTube and WATCH THEM ALL!! (DSMnation agrees!)
